Tampa Bay Frogman Swim Presented By

General Registration for the 2022 Tampa Bay Frogman Swim is sold out. Charity slots and waitlist remains open.

IMPORTANT: The finish will once again be at the American Legion, so the course will be more challenging than the Picnic Island Finish.  It is a longer course (3.4  miles) and subject to stronger currents.  This course is for experienced and strong OW swimmers, and first time swimmers may be asked to document a sub two hour 5k swim.

Charity Registration opens June 28th in honor of the Operation Redwings heroes.

Event date is Jan 16, 2022

On January 3rd, 2010 with less than 3 weeks notice, a grass roots effort brought over 30 people together at Gandy Beach in St Petersburg, FL to swim across the 55 degree waters of Tampa Bay, raising over $30,000 for a severely injured active duty Navy SEAL. The 5k point to point swim has evolved into an annual event that  is now an official Navy SEAL Foundation fundraiser and has raised over $4 million dollars for the Foundation.  The Navy SEAL Foundation has earned the coveted four-star rating from Charity Navigator for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.  The Foundation has also been certified by Charities of America as a “Best in America” charity. Ninety-five cents of every dollar spent by the Navy SEAL Foundation directly supports its mission, programs and services.

Excerpts from an email by a participant…

The third annual Tampa Bay Frogman swim was held yesterday. I have to admit that it took being here to fully appreciate what the event was really about. It was easy to get caught up in the swimming part of the event – some swimming superstars participated. I was fortunate to meet Olympian Brooke Bennett, and Craig Lenning who has accomplished the Swimming Triple Crown. But the day and event wasn’t about the swimming.I know that I can’t express what the event was really about. Somewhere between the Opening Ceremony, where they read aloud the names of SEALs who died in service to our country, and the Closing Ceremony, where they talked about the incredible sacrifices made by some SEALs and the hope of those over coming serious injury, I lost count of the number of times my eyes welled up and I realized the event had nothing to do with swimming.
